11+ Bexley Selection Test
11+ Bexley
Parents who wish their child to apply for a place at a grammar school in the London Borough of Bexley must inform the Local Authority of their wish for their child to sit the 11 plus exam through an online registration. Children applying for a place at a grammar school will sit the Bexley Selection Test. The test is provided by Quest Assessments and consists of two papers. Each paper contains a mixture of questions and is split into timed sections, children will be given an allocation of time for each section before being asked to move to the next section. The invigilator will lead the children through the test papers telling them how much time they have for each section. All questions are multiple choice format and answers are recorded on an Optical Mark Reading (OMR) answer sheet. There will be a short break between the two papers.
The raw scores (the number of correct answers in each section) are converted to an age-standardised score to make allowance for the child's age at the time of the test to ensure that younger children are not disadvantaged.
The weighting is 50% from the verbal ability score, 25% from the numerical ability score and 25% from the non-verbal ability score. The average total weighted age-standardised score is 200, with approximately two-thirds of candidates scoring between 170 and 230.
Achieving the selective standard does not guarantee the offer of a place at a grammar school unless your child is one of the 180 highest scorers. The majority of places are offered in order of home-to-school distance.
